The Cranford Historical Society is proud to present William Styple, editor of “Tell me About Lincoln: Memories about Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War and Life in Old New York” on Sunday, February 28th, 2010 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Crane-Phillips House Museum. There will be a discussion and book signing. William B. Styple is the historian of the town of Kearny, NJ and the owner of Belle Grove Publishing Company. He has edited, co-authored and authored several works on the Civil War. Styple discovered unpublished notes and correspondences from prolific sculptor and artist James Edward Kelly who conducted a series of interviews and correspondence with many well-known figures who personally knew Abraham Lincoln, several veteran soldiers who had met or had heard the President speak, and even the common folk who simply caught a fleeting glimpse or passed alongside his casket. Styple uncovered them about 70 years after they were written. Styple has used Kelly’s 27 boxes of documents to put together this fascinating book. This book also includes a chapter about Cranford's own Judge Wesley R. Batchelder of Holly Street, who was present at Ford's Theater the night President Lincoln was assassinated.
